Spiritual Nutrition Challenge--You Are What You Eat...

My gym is doing a nutrition challenge this month. We are working our physical bodies out and now we are being challenged on how we FUEL them. (Thank you 524 Training!)

God is pressing on my heart today that we need to  also look at how we fuel our minds and spirits.

The Divine God of the Universe works in the physical, mental, and spiritual.

The words YOU ARE WHAT YOU EAT are blinking like a neon sign.

If this age old adage is true of our physical bodies, then it is also true for our mind and spirit as well.

What we feed our mind and spirit fill our hearts.  Whatever our hearts are full of will direct our feet.  Where are you headed?

Are you spiritually malnourished?  Are your mental faculties groggy, foggy, and confused?

Spiritually, we have grounds to be full.

When the enemy was tempting and trying Jesus in the desert, Jesus combated him not in the physical but with the spiritual.

Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.’"  Matthew 4:4 NIV

Mentally, we can be mature and vigilant.

The writer of Hebrews says "Solid food is for those who are mature, who through training have the skill to recognize the difference between right and wrong." Hebrews 5:14 NLT
We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God,and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.  2 Corinthians 10:5 NIV

Our flesh, makes up the biggest part of us.  However, our bodies are the weakest part of us.

Physically, if we nourish our spirits and discipline our minds, our flesh will follow.

"No, I strike a blow to my body and make it my slave so that after I have preached to others, I myself will not be disqualified for the prize."  1 Corinthians 9:27 NIV

...for the next 30 days, I feel moved to make a Nutrition Challenge for our minds and spirits.  As our minds and spirits are strengthened, our flesh will fall in line.

Who is with me?

Spiritual Nutrition Challenge Day 1

Journal Assignment:  What are you eating?
What you consume with your eyes, ears, and hands, fills your heart.

Jot down a list of what you consume with your eyes, ears, and hands.

Consider what you have written.  Is it positive, noble, right, true, pure and lovely?

Exercise Assignments

Spirit:  Read Proverbs 1 or Psalms 1.  Listen to this song:  Anchor by Hillsong

Mind:  Journal things that jump out at you as you read.  Journal how it is comfortable to you.  I sometimes write phrases, words, prayers or doodle pictures of what I have read.

Body:  Take a walk and consider what you have read, listened to, and written.

Prayer:  God, this is your initiative.  Let your will be done your way in your supply.  Let your kingdom come in each person's heart.  Move strongly and swiftly through this little mustard seed of faith.  In Jesus Name, Amen.
